Sequence searching on STN

Time: 10.00 am – 4.30 pm with lunch and coffee breaks

This workshop gives you a comprehensive overview of sequence searching on STN, including DGENE, USGENE, PCTGEN and REGISTRY/CAPLUS. Search techniques like BLAST and FASTA similarity searching up to Motif searching (code match) in online and BATCH mode will be explained and exemplified. All four biosequence files on STN will be introduced and specific value-add search fields will be presented. A practical step-by-step guide on how to conduct a multifile BLAST sequence search in DGENE, USGENE, PCTGEN and REGISTRY/CAPLUS is included in the workshop material.

There will be plenty of opportunities for hands on practice during this workshop and we welcome any questions and interaction from attendees through the course of the day. It is recommended that attendees are familiar with the basic commands of STN although this is not essential.

Databases to be included in this session are DGENE, USGENE, PCTGEN, REGISTRY, CAplus.

This free of charge workshop will also include online hands-on practice under the guidance of the course tutors.
