Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) Added to USPATOLD on STN

Effective March 24, 2013, STN now includes Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) search and display features, and a CPC thesaurus in USPATOLD. USPATOLD contains full-text and classifications of published U.S. patents issued between 1790-1975.

The addition of CPC data improves classification searching of U.S. patents for more than 50,000 records in USPATOLD lacking IPC data.

New CPC search fields include:

Search Field	Description
/CPC	Search and select a CPC code
/CPC.KW	Search using CPC metadata including: CPC codes applied for inventive aspects in a patent CPC codes initially assigned to the patent vs. during a reclassification

In addition to CPC code custom displays in USPATOLD, new display capabilities include:

Display Field	Description
CPC.TAB	CPC codes and the available metadata per CPC code
CPC.UNIQ	Deduplicated list of CPC codes for the patent family

The CPC thesaurus structure resembles IPC and ECLA patent classification thesauri on STN with monthly updates planned.
