Indian patent publication number format enhanced in DWPI
10. August 2007
DWPI coverage of India commenced with applications and granted patents published from December 4th 2004 onwards, when the new patent legislation in India first took effect.
Coverage includes pre-grant (18 month) applications and national phase PCT applications issued by the four regional patent offices in India.
To ensure that publication numbers from each of the regional offices are unique, both the STN and Derwent standard number formats have been enhanced both for Display and Search as follows:
STN Standard
Two-character province codes have now been added in front of the five-digit publication serial number, the variations being.
Delhi | DE (national application) |
Mumbai | MU (national application) |
Derwent Standard
The publication numbers from the different provincial offices receive different patent kind codes. These have now been appended to the patent numbers in the index to ensure they are unique.
Delhi | I1 (national application) |
Mumbai | I3 (national application) |
