CA/CAplus to be enhanced with updated IPC codes
10. December 2005
Beginning in January 2006, the IPC codes in many of the patent records in the CA/CAplus family of databases will be changed from the current IPC7 version to the new IPC8 version. This reflects the IPC Reform initiated by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
In addition, starting in December 2005, the European Patent Office (EPO) is reclassifying over 50 million previously issued patents to align them with the new IPCs. IPCs for many patent family members will be added to CA/CAplus on December 18, 2005. As they are made available to CAS, the reclassifications will also be added to enable you to take advantage of this additional information.
There are two levels of codes, Core and Advanced, in the new version. Smaller patent offices are expected to use the Core level, while larger patents offices are expected to use the more detailed Advanced level. CAS will select patents for coverage at both levels.
The CA/CAplus Database Summary Sheets are available in STNGUIDE and on the WEB on our Database List.
