Special Publication “A Focus on Energy“
06. November 2007
For three decades, FIZ Karlsruhe has been collecting comprehensive information on energy-related topics. Printed and electronic information services make this information available to science, industry and the public. / The special publication “A Focus on Energy“ shows how precise information can contribute to fostering progress and innovation. / Key topics are results from research on efficient energy technologies and renewable energies / online database ENERGY freely available
Karlsruhe, November 2007 – Main targets of German and international politics are climate protection and a secure, economical, and environment-friendly energy supply. Energy policies focus on energy R&D. The new brochure “A Focus on Energy” presents ways of fostering progress and innovation by providing precise information. It continues FIZ Karlsruhe’s series of special publications on current research topics.
The non-profit service institution for information transfer and knowledge management in science and industry is an expert in dealing with energy-related topics. For 30 years, FIZ Karlsruhe has been collecting data and facts obtained from energy research. It also provides information on funding possibilities and the practical application of newly developed technologies and products.
In 1987, FIZ Karlsruhe was among the founding members of ETDE (Energy Technology Data Exchange), one of the International Energy Agency’s 41 Implementing Agreements to which a detailed article is dedicated in the new brochure. FIZ Karlsruhe represents the German federal government in the ETDE co-operation. This important role of FIZ Karlsruhe is due to the amount of energy research done in Germany and also to the fact that FIZ Karlsruhe operates the online database ENERGY. For 20 years, FIZ Karlsruhe has been collecting topical information on German energy research to be incorporated into ENERGY. 15 partner countries continuously add relevant information from their R&D (more information on the ENERGY file is available at http://www.fiz-karlsruhe.de/energy_environment.html or www.etde.org/etdeweb; the database can be used free of charge). The new energy brochure introduces ENERGY as a source of up-to-date energy information. Detailed search and analysis possibilities in other scientific databases are also presented. FIZ Karlsruhe offers these databases worldwide via its online service STN International.
Innovative technologies developed in government-funded energy research are key topics dealt with by the information service BINE which is also presented in the new brochure. BINE builds bridges between research and practical application and supports the policy of a sustainable energy supply. Important tasks are knowledge transfer and the dissemination of information in order to render energy technologies more efficient. FIZ Karlsruhe offers this information service on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi).
Promising energy-optimizing projects from young scientists - award-winning projects from the “Jugend forscht” contest - are available via FIZ Karlsruhe’s database JufoBase, presented at the end of the brochure.
“A Focus on Energy“ can be downloaded in English or German as a pdf file at http://www.fiz-karlsruhe.de/publications.html.
