The KWIC format, which is being charged variably depending on the hit display fields, is now free of charge for all fields that contribute to the Basic Index, including abstract and full-text fields, in PCTFULL, EPFULL, GBFULL, FRFULL, and PATDPAFULL. This change brings all STN full-text patent files in line, as the KWIC format has already been free of charge in abstract and full-text fields in USPATFULL and USPAT2.

2. FORMULATIONS - NEW DATABASE CLUSTER ADDED TO STN

A new database cluster, FORMULATIONS, has been added to STN. The cluster includes ADISINSIGHT, BIOSIS®, CABA, CAPLUS, CROPU, DDFU, DRUGU, EMBASE, IMSPATENTS, IPA, MEDLINE®, PASCAL, PHAR, PHIN, PROMT, SCISEARCH®, TOXCENTERSM, WPIDS, and WPINDEX.

3. CA/CAPLUS - CANADIAN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE (CIPO) ADDED TO THE LIST OF CORE PATENT OFFICES COVERED

The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) was added to the list of core patent offices covered in CA/CAplus. Bibliographic information and available abstracts in Canadian patent documents are added to CAplus within 2 days of issue, and indexing of Canadian patents is completed in 27 days.

This addition is the ninth core patent office. The other core patent offices include the European Patent Office (EPO), French Patent Office (INPI - Institut National de la Propriete Industrielle), German Patent Office (DPMA), Japanese Patent Office (JPO), Russian Patent Office (ROSPATENT - Russian Agency for Patents and Trademarks), UK Patent Office, United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO), and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

4. DIOGENES - DATABASE CONTENT STREAMLINED

Diogenes has been reloaded and the contents of the database have been streamlined to focus on these three types of information:

Medical device MDR (adverse reaction) reports

List of 510(k) notifications (medical device approvals)

List of all drugs ever approved by FDA with patent and marketing exclusivity information

DIOGENES is updated weekly. Weekly and monthly current-awareness alerts(SDIs) are available.

5. EPFULL ENHANCEMENTS LEGAL STATUS DATA:

The content of EPFULL has been enhanced with legal status information generated from the European Patent Office's (EPO) weekly European Bibliographic Data databases.

HISTORY INFORMATION: EPFULL has also been enhanced with historical information for selected bibliographic data fields, and information on opposition and licensing. To effectively search and display this information, new search fields and display formats are available. These enhancements make EPFULL the most complete source for information on European patents.

PHARMACOLOGY DATABASE CLUSTER: EPFULL has been added to the PHARMACOLOGY database cluster.

FREE KWIC DISPLAY FORMAT: The KWIC (KeyWord In Context) display format in EPFULL is now free-of-charge for all fields that contribute to the Basic Index (/BI), including the Abstract (/AB) and full-text fields.

Using D KWIC no longer generates display costs after a search in the Basic Index or full-text fields, e.g., claims.

With this change, the KWIC display format in all STN full-text databases (including USPATFULL and USPAT2) is free of charge in the abstract and full-text fields.

6. PROUSDDR - DATABASE RELOADED WITH ENHANCEMENTS

PROUSDDR has been reloaded with enhancements to the Molecular Formula (/MF) and Patent Number (/PN) fields. All multi-component molecular formulas are now combined into a single component formula in the MF field. The Patent Number field was enhanced to be compatible with other STN patent databases.

7. USPATFULL/USPAT2 - SIMULTANEOUS LEFT AND RIGHT TRUNCATION ADDED

Simultaneous Left and Right Truncation (SLART) is now available in the Abstract (/AB), Title (/TI), Claims (/CLM), and Exemplary Claim Text (/ECLM) fields.

8. DERWENT WORLD PATENTS INDEX MANUAL CODE REVISION 2006

The review period for the DWPI Manual Code revision suggestions has ended, and the lists should be available on the Thomson Scientific web site at the end of next week. The new codes will be implemented in the first update of 2006, so please check the revisions as they may affect your search strings.

9. STN ANAVIST - STN ANAVIST, VERSION 1.01, RELEASED; ALLOWS THE DOWNLOAD OF CAPLUS TEXTUAL INFORMATION

STN AnaVist, Version 1.01, is now available for download. A new CD-ROM containing STN AnaVist, Version 1.01, will be available in early November 2005. All existing STN AnaVist customers will automatically receive a copy of STN AnaVist 1.01.

In compliance with the new CAS Information Use Policies, you can now export/download CAplus documents in comma-separated (.csv) format from STN AnaVist, Version 1.01, for use in third-party analysis and visualization (A&V) software.

The new "Download CAplus Documents" feature allows you to export/download up to 5,000 CAplus records for use in third-party A&V tools. If your document set includes records from:

Other databases, e.g., PCTFULL, USPATFULL, only CAplus document records are downloaded, up to 5,000
HCAplus/ZCAplus, CA/HCA/ZCA, MARPAT®, or CASREACT® from STN Express®, the CAplus equivalents are downloaded

You can export or download CAplus documents either before or after you visualize your answers in STN AnaVist.

The resulting .csv file provided will be in read-only format to provide protection against accidental overwriting of file contents. To manipulate the data within the file, you will need to save it as a write-enabled version.

10. CAS INFORMATION USE POLICIES REVISED

Revised CAS Information Use Policies have been issued and are available for your review at:

The new policies are effective October 17, 2005.

CAS has worked with customers to address concerns regarding the CAS Information Use Policies issued in April. Based on this feedback, the new CAS Information Use Policies address appropriate use of CAS information including:

Post-processing - More clarity regarding what can be done with CAS data in a post-processing environment
Record retention - Retain records in accordance with your organization's retention policy
Merging of CAS data during post-processing - CAS data can now be merged with other data
Use of CAS data in third-party analysis and visualization tools - CAS provides a way for you to obtain CAS data for use in third-party analysis and visualization tools through:
- A new feature that allows you to export/download CAplus records via STN AnaVist
- The CAS Connection Table Service via Science IP® for chemical structures
