Materials Science
From its very beginnings FIZ Karlsruhe has been recognized as the number one in data collection on crystalline materials (ICSD) and has ever since maintained its international reputation in this field.
In the field of materials science, FIZ Karlsruhe provides you with a variety of specialized databases, e.g.:
GMELIN97 - a handbook of inorganic chemistry
INSPEC - a database for physics, electronics, and computing
METADEX - a database for metallurgical and metallic materials literature
MATBUS, EMA - databases for techno-commercial developments in iron, steel, non-ferrous and engineering materials
More materials science databases are available on STN International
FIZ Karlsruhe offers the world's largest database for inorganic crystal structures, ICSD, containing about 125,000 original crystal structures published since 1913 almost exhaustively covering the known inorganic crystalline materials. The ICSD database is an optimum tool for identifying unknown crystalline phases, for example via powder diffraction, single crystal diffraction or even NMR spectroscopy.
For more than 25 years FIZ Karlsruhe has been offering the crystal structure depot as a free service to the scientific community.
